My Perspective

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and a licensed professional counselor (LPC). I have a master’s degree in marriage, family, and couples counseling, and am an Approved Clinical Supervisor for limited licensed marriage and family therapists (LLMFTs) and limited licensed counselors (LLCs) in Michigan.
Working with clients, I approach therapy from a directive and solution-focused angle. I believe that most clients seek counseling to make changes in their lives, and I see myself as a guide and teacher for the skills, perspective, insight, and knowledge that give clients the ability to make those changes. There are things we can change and things we cannot change, and I try to help clients find that line so they can react or cope accordingly.
I think counseling is an empowering experience, where clients grow to understand themselves and others in ways that help them consciously create the life they want.
I specialize in relationship-related issues, which can include romantic partners, family, parenting, friends, coworkers, etc. Although working with couples is a strong passion of mine, I also love working with individuals on relationship issues. When trying to improve or clarify relationships, counseling with me often focuses on communication skills, boundaries, self-awareness, values, past experiences, and family-of-origin impact.
Although I primarily work with couples, it is not always in the traditional “we’re saving the marriage” way. I’ve worked with premarital couples trying to work through minor concerns before marriage, couples together for 20 years who finally have the time to dedicate back into their relationship, couples who don’t know if they want to stay together, couples adding new partnerships for the first time, and couples who are divorcing but need to figure out how to co-parent respectfully. People seek counseling for many different reasons, so it must be customized to their needs.
